Black
Númenórean
In the Akaballêth is told
the
story of Númenor, the mightiest kingdom of men during the second
age, which was destroyed by Eru. Sauron had corrupted most of the
númenóreans
into worshipping Morgoth and this led to the kingdom´s downfall.
Some of the black númenóreans had departed to
Middle-earth
before the downfall and so survived. The black
númenóreans
made a great haven in a place named Umbar, which lay on the coastlands
in the south of Middle-earth. They were a great sea power and for many
centuries they raided and pillaged the coastlands of Middle-earth.
Sauron
gave three of them rings of power and they were later counted among the
Nazgûl. To two others, who were named Herumor and Fuinur, he gave
other powers and they became lords among the Haradrim. Another
black
númenórean mentioned in LotR3 was the Lieutenant
of Barad-dûr, also called the Mouth of Sauron, who was the
spokesman
of Sauron. The black númenóreans often came to Gondor to
attack the other noble remnant of the númenórean race,
the
Elendili, the Elf-friends. They were defeated by Hyarmendacil of Gondor
in the third age and the survivors fled to Harad and Mordor.
